Pisces Volantes

Pisces Volantes

by Elyssa Bingham © 2022

Pisces Volantes (Latin for ‘flying fish’) is an artwork I created as part of my first collection of silk scarves. I wanted to make pieces that could be admired as art and worn as decorative items of clothing. The artwork contains themes of transformation, freedom and success which are illustrated within each hand painted element.

Like A Bull In A China Shop

Like A Bull In A China Shop

by Elyssa Bingham © 2022

This artwork is inspired by the idiom, “like a bull in a china shop”, and the Kintsugi art of mending broken objects with gold. The bulls and each individual piece of beautiful floral, oriental and Cornish china has been hand drawn and painted, depicting themes of fragility, love and revival.

Monkeys & Buttercups

Monkeys & Buttercups

by Elyssa Bingham © 2022

During my final year project at university, designing interior and exterior sets based on ‘The Veldt’ (1951) by Ray Bradbury, I created a collection of wallpaper designs to decorate the interior walls. My monkeys & buttercups print design was inspired by themes of childhood, both monkeys and buttercups symbolising playfulness and childlike naivety.

I have also rearranged the artwork to be printed as a beautiful silk scarf. This scarf comes in three different colour ways you can find in my shop; an elegant vintage cream, stunning petrol blue and a scarlet red.

A Crow’s Court

A Crow's Court

by Elyssa Bingham © 2022

During my final year project at university, designing interior and exterior sets based on the short story, ‘The Veldt’ by Ray Bradbury, I created a collection of wallpaper designs to decorate the interior walls. The term, crow’s court, was the primary inspiration behind this design. Each hand drawn and painted element in this pattern is symbolic to themes and emotions present in the story and setting.

Within the artwork, nine crows encircle the scales of justice while perched on walnut and oak branches. Walnut symbolises wisdom and knowledge and is the most common wood used to make a judge’s gavel and sounding block. Each crow is garbed in outfits befitting a medieval court as twisting scrolls determine their rank, with their floating black feathers synonymous with protection and clarity.
